Does your woodburner leak smoke into the room at times?

This can happen for several reasons. Weather (Strong winds or very cold) Exposed property location (Hills, Seafront etc) Poor draw Lack of ventilation   Occasionally? Sometimes your woodburner which usually behaves its self, but on occasions puffs smoke into the room, usually when lighting the fire it is probably because of a pocket of air has formed within the flue and has stopped the draw of the smoke and now is blocking the exit route, meaning the smoke has nowhere else to go but out of your stoves air vents. 😡 To prevent this from happening you can either use an extra handful of kindling and place it evenly around the firebox or put a sheet of newspaper flat on...

Does the legislation affect the sale of open fires and fireplaces?

Yes, open fires and fireplaces will no longer be able to be sold as solid fuel heating appliances after 2022 due to their poor efficiency and particulate emissions. Open fires lose 80% of its valuable heat they produce up the chimney and takes with it your very expensive central heating meaning you are burning approximately 3 times the amount of fuel you need to be on your fire. ACR Earlswood 3 Multifuel stove just installed into its new home. The Earlswood III has full DEFRA approval enabling it to burn wood within smoke controlled zones. Being a multifuel stove, you can also burn a range of smokeless fuels on this stove. CAN I KEEP USING MY EXISTING WOODBURNING STOVES?

When the Ecodesign programme comes into force for stoves in the UK in January 2022 it does not mean you are unable to use your existing stove or that you have to replace it as of yet. This is because the Clean Air Strategy does not say there will be a ban on the use of existing wood or multi-fuel appliances, nor do you need to modify your appliance. However, you should be burning quality dry “Ready to Burn” wood or quality smokeless fuels. Kiln dried logs are the best to use as they have 20% or less moisture content.   REMEMBER - You can’t burn water!
